Between classes, late-night study sessions, and campus life, students put their devices through the wringer. A dead laptop the night before a deadline or a cracked phone screen is the last thing you need. Here's how to keep your tech alive all semester — and how to save when something does go wrong.

Protect your gear from day one

• Use a padded sleeve or backpack compartment for your laptop — never toss it loose in a bag.
• Put a rugged case and a Gator Glass screen protector on your phone.
• Keep drinks away from keyboards (we see a lot of coffee-soaked laptops around finals).

Keep your laptop running fast

A sluggish laptop is often fixable without buying new. Regularly restart it, clear out old files, keep the vents dust-free for cooling, and consider an SSD or RAM upgrade if it's a few years old — an inexpensive boost that can add years of life.

Backing up your coursework matters most. Use cloud storage or an external drive so a hardware failure never costs you an assignment.

Watch your phone battery

Heavy daily use wears batteries out fast. If your phone is dying by mid-afternoon, a battery replacement is cheap and makes it feel new — far better than stressing about finding an outlet between classes.
